kumbh

History of Kumbh Mela is around 850 years old. It is known that Adi Shankaracharya had begun it, but according to some stories, the start of Kumbha was only due to Samudra Manthan beginning.

Amrit's Kalash, which came out in the Manthan, was dropped at the places of  Ujjain, Haridwar, Allahabad, and Nashik. Due to this Kumbh Mela is held after every three years at these four places. 12 years later this fair comes back to the first place. While some documents show that Kumbh Mela started in 525 BC.

There are many misconceptions among the scholars about how the provision for organizing Kumbh Mela has been done. In the Vedic and mythological period, there was no form of administrative arrangements like Kumbha and Ardha Kumbha bath as today. Some scholars talk about the proper organizing of Kumbh during the Gupta period. But the certified facts come from the time of Emperor Harshavardhan 617-647 AD. Later, Shrimad Adi Jagatguru Shankaracharya and his disciple Sureshvaracharya arranged for bathing on the Sangam beach on the Dasnami Sanyasi Akhara.

Important Planets in Rashis
The role of Sun, Moon, Guru, and Saturn is considered to be important from the Navagrahas in organizing Kumbh. Hence Kumbha is organized in the special position of these planets. When the Amrit Kalash was received from Sagar Manthan, the fight begin in the deities to get the Amrit. In such a situation, drops of
nectar fell at some places. So, Kumbh is held at such places where the drops of nectar felt.

During such fighting, moon saved the nectar from flowing. The Guru kept the Kalash hidden. Surya Dev saved the Kalash from being destroyed and Shani protected it from the wrath of Indra. Therefore, when the combination of these planets is done in one zodiac, then Kumbh is organized. Because the nectar was preserved with the help of these four planets.

12 years do not take every third year

Guru has an amount of stay for approximately one year. In this way, it takes 12 years to travel in twelve zones. Therefore, after every twelve years, Kumbha is organized at the same place. But Kumbh is organized for every third year at different places in the four places prescribed for Kumbh. The Prayag has special significance in the four places prescribed for Kumbh. After every 144 years Mahakumbh is organized here.

Recognition of Mahakumbh
It is said in the scriptures that one year of the earth is one day of Gods, therefore, every 12 years, Kumbha is organized in one place. Twelve years of the devatas come after 144 years of the earth. It is believed that Kumbh is held in heaven after 144 years, so that year Mahakumbha is organized on earth also. Prayag has been prescribed as the place for Mahakumbh.
